Cops turn going abroad party into virtual final farewell

A man who was to leave the country for overseas’ employment the following day had been brutally attacked by a group of policemen, attached to the Padukka station, who visited the house at night, claimed the victim’s wife.


She said her husband had given a party to his friends before leaving the country that night and a group of policemen who arrived at midnight, pulled her husband from their house and assaulted him mercilessly even though she pleaded with them not to hit him on the head.


The victim with head injuries was admitted the Padukka hospital, from where he was transferred to the Homagama hospital.


She also alleged that the assailants had tried to reach a settlement by offering Rs. 100,000 to the victim after realising the gravity of the offence they had committed.


However, she had turned down the offer. She has reported the incident to the Assistant Superintendant of Police, Padukka.
