President Mahinda Rajapaksa is willing to visit Jaffna if the TNA invites him to attend its provincial councillors’ swearing-in ceremony, but Chief Minister-elect C. V. Wigneswaran and other newly elected members will have to take oaths before Northern Governor Maj. Gen. (retd.) G. A. Chandrasiri.
Asked whether the President would accept an invitation from the TNA to be in Jaffna for the swearing-in ceremony, a presidential aide who wished to remain anonymous answered in the affirmative last night, adding that the councillors would, however, have to be sworn in before the Governor according to the Constitution.
