Prasantha Lal De Alwis, President’s Counsel was appointed Honorary Consul for Seychelles in Sri Lanka with effect from 4th October 2013.
Mr. Prasantha Lal De Alwis had his secondary education at Ananda College, Colombo. He possesses a LL.B and LL.M on Law of the Sea and Human Rights from the University of Colombo.
He started his legal career as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka. He today practices in the appellate and Trial Courts in the area of Criminal Law. He was a Director at Sampath Bank PLC and had to retire after nine years, due to the Corporate Governance Rule by Central bank of Sri Lanka.
Mr. De Alwis serves in the boards of Softlogic Holdings PLC and Siyapatha Finance Ltd. (Member of Sampath Group). He is also a member of the board of Lakshman Kadiragamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS).
With this appointment it is speculated that the ties between Seychelles and Sri Lanka will be stronger with mutual benefits in the areas of Fisheries, Hospitality, Shipping, Legal and Healthcare. Mihin Lanka will start direct flights to Seychelles from November.
