A special presidential commission, investigating into complaints regarding missing persons, will meet in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu next month.

Secretary to the commission H. W. Gunadasa told The Island yesterday that the commission would continue to accept complaints despite the deadline expiring today (Oct. 31). Gunadasa said: "We have received about 2,000 complaints so far. Due to almost all complaints being in Tamil, we have a difficulty in translating. But, we are going ahead with investigations."

The commission consists of Maxwell Parakrama Perera, Dimingu Badathuruge Priyanthi Suranjana Vidyaratna and Mano Ramanathan. Retired High Court Judge Parakrama Perera will function as the Chairman of the commission.

Gunadasa said that the investigation would cover the period from June 10, 1990 to May 19, 2009. Responding to query, Gunadasa said that the commission was ready to provide an opportunity for those willing to give evidence in camera. Organisations representing the interests of the missing could make representations, he said. Submissions could be sent to Commission to Investigate into complaints regarding mission persons, No 8/9, Suranimala Place Colombo 6.
