The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) raided a private warehouse in Welisara yesterday and seized 12,000 kg of powdered milk and a large quantity of packeted cheese unfit for human consumption.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade told The Island that the consignment of both the powdered milk and cheese had been valued at five million rupees.

He said the milk powder and cheese were to be released to the market after their prices were altered.

An artificial shortage was created by milk powder companies in recent months.
