Drugs put him behind bars for 22 years

 Colombo High Court Judge Padman Sooresena yesterday found H. M. Nilantha Kumara guilty of being in possession of, and dealing with narcotics. The convict was sentenced to 22 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 600,000.


Nilantha Kumara was arrested, by the Police Narcotics Bureau, on April 13, 2009, at Peliyagoda, in possession of 1.053 grammes of heroin and 7.2 grammes of morphine.


He was indicted for being in possession and dealing with those narcotics.


The accused was charged on four counts. He was found guilty on all counts. He was sentenced to 15 years RI with a fine of Rs. 300,000 each for counts one and three. He was sentenced to a seven years RI for charges two and four to run concurrently.
