The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), in collaboration with the Family Health Bureau (FHB), Health Education Bureau (HEB) and the UNICEF, will launch a website giving information on food and nutrition. The launching of the Website will take place on December 29 at Sambodhi Viharaya Colombo.

GMOA General Committee member Dr. Nalinda Herath told The Island that for the first time in Sri Lanka a website on food and nutrition would be introduced. It was being done on a request by Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara.

The website would be officially launched by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He pointed out that for want of correct information on food and nutrition, people contracted a number of diseases, very often non-communicable diseases. The information provided by the website would be able to guide the people to select the correct food along with correct nutrition.

Dr.Herath added that the website would also inform the people on lactation management, especially, breast feeding of infants for the first six months and subsequent supplementary feeding.
