A doctor attached to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital has been suspended for allegedly installing a micro-camera on the towel rack of the staff toilet, in the hospital, sources said. Two investigations regarding the incident have commenced.

When contacted, Anuradhapura Teaching hospital Director Dr. W. Atapattu said that a few days back a camera had been found installed in one of the common toilets. A preliminary investigations had revealed that a certain medical officer was involved in the case, he said, pointing out that he had reported the matter to the Health Secretary, who had responded by agreeing to send a team of investigators today.

Until a full investigation was conducted the real culprit could not be revealed, the director said.

When contacted, GMOA General Committee member Dr. Navin de Soysa said that GMOA would never interfere with disciplinary inquiries against doctors. In the present case if a doctor was involved, the GMOA would never do anything on behalf of the doctor. "If a doctor has committed a wrong, he or she must be punished. Just because a doctor belongs to the GMOA, the GMOA will not protect him or her when found guilty."
