By Ifham Nizam

Plans are underway to further develop postal ties between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

A meeting was held between Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaranatunga and Vietnam Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh yesterday at the Ministry of Postal Services in Colombo.

The duo discussed at length strengthening of postal services between the two countries and agreed to exchange know-how for the betterment of postal services in both countries.

They also discussed the building of a statue of Ho Chi Minh, the visionary leader of Vietnam on the Public Library grounds in Colombo.

The Vietnamese Ambassador requested Kumaranatunga to issue a commemorative stamp to mark the event.

However, The Island learns that Minister had not assured the Ambassador on issuing the stamp because of the strict policy recently adopted that there won’t be more than 35 stamps per year.

Postal Services Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, Postmaster General Rohana Abeyrathna, Harshamana Panditharathna, Private Secretary to the Minister and Malsha Kumaranatunga also participated at the discussion.
