The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday vowed to proceed with their countrywide indefinite strike from January 30 blaming the Public Service Commission of sabotaging the implementation of their service minute.

President of the GMOA Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya met Health Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka to go through the doctors’ service minute draft sent by the Public Service Commission, but found it inconsistent with the recommendations approved by the Public, Finance and Health ministries and the Salaries and Cadre Commission.

Dr. Padeniya yesterday accused the PSC of having altered those recommendations and

added that it had no right to change the recommendations approved by four key bodies.

The PSC had not functioned as an independent commission, he said.

The strike is to be launched from January as the GMOA had lost faith in the PSC, Dr. Padeniya said. It was the duty of relevant authorities to intervene to sort out the issue, because the strike action would definitely paralyse the healthcare services to a great extent, he said.
