Attack on churches; 23 persons who surrendered granted bailJanuary 29, 2014, 11:13 pm

Twenty three suspects, including four Buddhist monks and a Samanera of only 7 or 8 years were released on personal bail by the Galle Additional Magistrate G. Kumara Munasinghe on Monday (27) for allegedly attacking two fundamentalist churches in Hikkaduwa on January 12. All suspects were granted bail after they surrendered to Court.
Apart from the Buddhist monks and the Samanera there were 18 other civilians who were also enlarged on Rs. 500,000 personal bail each and Rs. 500,000 surety bail each.
The magistrate had warned them not to get involved in such violence in future by taking the law into their own hands and specially warned the first suspect (a Buddhist monk) who is on bail in another case for assaulting a Christian believer.
