I am under severe pressure – Jayantha

Sri Lanka Cricket President Jayantha Dharmadasa had claimed that he had been put under ‘severe pressure’ during the recent ICC meeting to discuss proposed changes to the game. An emergency meeting of SLC’s Executive Committee was convened yesterday and Dharmadasa had informed the board that he had been put under pressure to agree to the new resolutions to the administration of the sport moved by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with the backing of Cricket Australia (CA) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)

Sources close to the SLC Ex-Co said that the possibilities of an alternative person to be sent for the next ICC meeting was discussed behind closed doors so that SLC could resist the move to introduce changes without giving in. While Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) had strongly resisted new recommendations, Sri Lanka’s officials had been blowing hot and cold.

"They are putting so much of pressure in order to get power and imagine what they would do once they have the power," the official questioned.

The official also said that SLC will resist the move to give India, Australia and England substantial power at the ICC.

The new draft proposals, however, weren’t distributed among Ex-Co members as it was confidential.

SLC will appoint a sub-committee to study the proposals and take a decision before the ICC meeting. (RC)
