Small parties, independent groups hand in nominations

Several small parties and independent groups were the first to hand over nominations yesterday to contest the forthcoming Western and Southern Provincial Council pools since the Elections Department commenced accepting nominations last Thursday.


Deputy Commissioner of Elections (Administration) M. M. Mohammed said the deadline for sending in applications for postal voting closed on February 10.


He said that those eligible could apply online via the department website, <wwwslelections .gov.lk>


Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the Kalutara District, Rasika Peiris said that the Secretary of the Okkoma Wasiyo Okkoma Rajawaru Sanvidanaya M. B. Thanimulla had handed in their nominations yesterday morning.


Chief Returning Officer (CRO) for the Galle District Ravindra Hewavitharna said that one Independent Group led by Chandrakumar Dahanayake had handed in their nominations yesterday morning.


Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the Matara District W. H. R. Wijayakumara said that two independent groups, one led by Seemon Velupathiranage Jinapriya and the other led by Hewa Anthonige Kamal de Priyankara had handed in their nominations yesterday morning.


Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the Hambantota District Deepal Chandraratne said that the Secretary of the Jana Setha Peramuna Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathane Thera had handed in his party candidates’ nominations yesterday morning
