Northern Muslims demand share of Indian housing

More than 1,200 protesters took part in an agitation in Vavuniya yesterday.

The majority of them were northern Muslim IDPs and they demanded houses being built in the North by India.

They demanded that more Indian Housing assistance be extended to them as well as they had been robbed of their properties and driven away by the LTTE.

The protests which began at Vavuniya Gamini Sinhala School, soon spilled over into the streets.

Protesters also signed a public petition addressed to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister of India Salman Khurshid to help the displaced Muslims as well.
